SmartHub ICs like the USB5744 go beyond the basic functions of a USB hub by integrating system-level functions typically associated with a separate MCU or processor. With support for custom configurations of external ports and GPIO pins, this Smart Hub offers maximum operational flexibility. Additionally, the MPLAB Connect Configurator allows for the programming of On-chip One Time Programmable (OTP) ROM to ensure the desired start-up configuration at power on. The USB5744 can also be configured through a series of external low-cost resistor bootstraps, eliminating the need for OTP programming
